SMART is a charitable organization formed under California's non-profit corporation laws. SMART is dedicated to extending cultural, artistic and educational opportunities through school music programs. SMART is committed to raising funds through tax-deductible donations and through an innovative instrument rental program in order to provide grants for local school music programs.

Of special interest to students, parents and educators is SMART's instrument rental program. The instrument rental program is a unique and innovative service to the community that allows SMART to generate funds for distribution as grants to local schools.The instrument rental program is also designed to enhance participating students' educational experiences by insuring that they have the opportunity to explore the world of music with a quality musical instrument.

Significantly, SMART is not a for profit business. SMART has no owners, shareholders, investors or partners. Instead, THE SMART FOUNDATION is guided by a diverse group of educators, musicians and business people who serve on SMART's Board of Directors. These dedicated people serve on SMART's board because of a shared concern for the health of music education and a firm belief in SMART's vision for insuring music is an integral part of every person's education.
